Why Meat is Species-Appropriate
There is far too much confusion out there about whether or not meat is the enemy or the savior of our health. If you are confused as to why so many people are making a push for a plant-based diet while others are insisting that meat is the way to go, I can’t say I blame ya. There is so much misinformation out there, and I am here to help you sort it all out.
Back when we were cave folk, we were not getting the 75% of our calories from fruits, vegetables, and grains that is recommended by the USDA’s MyPlate. In fact, the only fruits and vegetables our ancient ancestors would have been eating were those that were both local and in season. Additionally, the sugar content and overall structure of many fruits and vegetables looked much different than they do today. If and when grains were eaten, it was likely to fatten themselves up for those times when hunting was not an option. Because when it comes to getting fattened up, grains are really good at that.
Instead, they survived, and thrived, on animal products. Not only did they devour all the meat and fat but the organs as well. They would then use the animal’s hide for clothing and blankets and their bones for tools and weapons. Waste not, am I right?
How, exactly, do we know that they thrived? Because we are all here today. Meat is the reason we evolved into the humans we are today. Meat is how we went from using simple tools to putting humans in space. Meat contains the essential fats and proteins that our bodies need to function at their best. And meat is freakin’ delicious.
When it comes to those who are pushing a plant-based diet consisting of highly processed imitation meat and milk products, it is important to ask who is benefiting. Documentary films, such as Game Changers, promote a plant-based diet. This film was presented by James Cameron who runs a company that supplies the plant-based protein products that make synthetic foods such as Beyond Burgers. I caution anyone reading to be leery of following any advice that serves to line the pockets of stockholders.
For all my fellow humans reading this, I hope that I have cleared the good name of meat. This species-appropriate superfood has a long history of nourishing humans so that we may not just live but thrive. If anyone was looking for an excuse to grill a steak for dinner, you’ve got one.
